Today’s market for skin care, especially that of the anti aging products segment, is replete with stuff that claim to do this and claim to do that but the problem is that many of these products’ claims are unfounded, bloated and is downright packed with information that are misleading.
But the demand for such products is so huge that almost every day, new products that keep saying the same lies are still being gobbled up by buyers. The problem seems to be rooted to the fact that most buyers are lazy in doing their due diligence before trying a particular product.
Because if they did, they would know that a lot of the products out there are not legit in the sense that most of its claims have no scientific proof and are not scientifically and clinically proven to be effective.
Below are some tips on how to find out whether a product will truly help your cause or not:
1. Check the ingredients. If what you read seems too fancy to you, look it up. A lot of the names that manufacturers come up with are simply branding strategies that just rename known substances. For example, palmitoyl pentapeptide is usually called its trademarked name Matrixyl. Vitamin A is usually referred to as retinol as far as skin care products are concerned. If you cannot ascertain what an item in the ingredients list really is even after looking it up, then you may treat that as something suspicious. Anyone can invent a name!
2. Search the scientific literature for references of the product’s main ingredients. Many people will find this step quite boring and not a few will forego it. After all, who wants to read scientific articles, right? Well, this is why we have the next tip.
3. Ask around! There is nothing like the personal testimony of a current or former user of a product. Of course, the testimony of another person is not a perfect barometer to judge any product but it will be a great start and will probably inspire you to do more research.
4. Go to the dermatologist. This is pretty self-explanatory but is something a lot of people neglect. A professional is still the best resource of information. Furthermore, a dermatologist will be able to give you all the available options for you.
5. Always remember, if a product works for someone, it does not necessarily follow that it will work for you. We are all built so uniquely that not one product will solve all of our problems at the same time. The key thing here is that, if you do not find it in a product, keep looking! There are plenty of fish in the skin care industry!!!
