Kitchen Scissors – No Chef Should Do Without

Oh how blessed we are when owning a good pair of kitchen scissors. They are an invaluable tool in the kitchen. Finding a good pair is simple with a little knowledge. Factors such as knowing the difference between shears and scissors, weight, offsetting of blades, etc. are just a few things that should be considered when shopping for a new pair. Purchasing scissors/shears is not something that you should cheap out on either. A good pair will last you for many years.

Having found the pair you love, how can you use them? The possibilities are endless, but here are a few to get you started:

1) Preparing meat for soups or stews – Once your meat is thawed, you can chop it into bite-size pieces with ease!

2) Pizza – Not as much fun as using a pizza wheel, but definitely effective.

3) Cutting dried herbs.

4) Opening plastic bags and sauce packets such as those inside found cereal, cake mix, dried potatoes boxes.

5) Cutting Celery into bite size (or appetizer size) pieces.

6) Cutting up whole chickens – Good scissors will cut through the joints with ease.

7) Green onions can be cut easily.

8) Cutting pasta-type dough (or pie crusts) into manageable pieces.

9) Cutting ginger into slices or pieces

10) Cutting dried fruit for use in recipes.

11) Cutting string used on items ranging from holding your turkey legs together to holding the bag of dog food closed.

12) Cutting chicken into nuggets.

13) Removing chicken from the bone.

It’s important to take care for your scissors too. Dishwashers can ruin them, so they are a definite no-no. Wash your scissors in hot, soapy water, taking care to check for bits of food stuck in the hinges. Dry completely and store in a dry area.
