For a long time, the e-mail service was a popular choice for document and photo sharing, but recent years saw a rise of other programs and options in that field. The new Hotmail decided to take that glory back and return it to the e-mail world, enhancing several capabilities of this service when it comes to documents and pictures.
With the new Hotmail you don’t have to go through the task of saving and opening pictures, leaving your inbox or opening new tabs. Now you have a picture preview directly in your inbox and all you need to do is click and view. Due to the rise of many picture uploading services like Flickr and Tumblr, this picture preview option works not only for attachments, but for links as well. The same goes for documents, which you can preview and open directly in your inbox, thanks to Office Web Apps. Once attached, the document is stored in SkyDrive (Microsoft’s file storage service) so that people who receive your document can open it from anywhere, regardless if they use Hotmail sign in, or hi5 login details, have PC or MAC, have Microsoft Office, and allowing you access to the file on whichever computer you are on.
E-mail size is an increasing phenomenon and so is picture and document size. SkyDrive jumps in yet again to help Hotmail and now you have the option of sending 200 photos of 50mb size, all at once in a single e-mail. What happens is that all your sent photos are packed into a digital album, from which the recipients can view single photos or as a slide-show. They can download, comment, tag and even add photos into the album. The same process goes for documents, which can be easily accessed and edited, no matter the size.
